VET-MUN is a quick, convenient way to determine semi-quantitatively MUN levels in whole milk. Simply put a drop of milk on the reagent pad, wait for 90 seconds and compare to a colour chart. The dry chemical pathway utilized in our VET-MUN Reagent Strips has been described by Ormerod, T.P. in 1968, but our VET-MUN Reagent Strips also utilize Patent Pending enhancers yielding superior accuracy and precision.
The VET-MUN Reagent Strips can be used in conjunction with the VET-BHB Reagent Strips, which are used to determine subclinical ketosis, a condition where the cow uses fat instead of carbohydrate as a source of energy. A high level of β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) is an indication that the cow is underfed or in a late stage of lactation.
